Dentsply Sirona has announced the upcoming release of two endodontic sealers designed to address varying clinical approaches to root canal obturation: ProRoot® Bio Sealer, a calcium silicate–based bioceramic material, and AH Plus® Ribbon®, a new formulation based on well-established resin sealer technology. Both products will be available in the United States beginning October 2025.
ProRoot® Bio Sealer builds on Dentsply Sirona’s long-standing experience with MTA-based materials. The sealer is formulated with a higher bioactive cement content compared to other bioceramic sealers, aiming to promote hydroxyapatite formation. According to interim clinical data, the material demonstrates high short-term periapical healing rates and maintains radiographic visibility over time when compared to a leading bioceramic sealer.
The product is compatible with multiple obturation techniques—including cold, warm, and carrier-based methods—and is designed to be non-staining and retreatable. Additional reported properties include favorable flowability, appropriate syringe extrusion force, and a high pH environment, all of which may support clinical handling and healing response.
A notable component of the system is the ProRoot® Flex Tip, which is designed to accommodate complex canal anatomies and reduce material waste per application.
“ProRoot® Bio Sealer has excellent viscosity allowing me to control placement. It flows into microanatomy and canal irregularities when present,” says David J. Landwehr, DDS, MS, Capital Endodontics, Madison, Wisconsin. “When a bioceramic sealer is the best alternative, ProRoot® Bio Sealer will be my choice.”
AH Plus® Ribbon® is the latest iteration of Dentsply Sirona’s resin-based sealer platform, which includes over 30 years of clinical use and research behind the original AH Plus® and Ribbon® products. The reformulated sealer features a modified paste consistency to support easier mixing and improved flow, along with enhanced adhesion to gutta-percha. These changes are intended to promote a more stable and effective apical seal.
The material maintains dimensional stability with slight expansion and is suitable for all obturation techniques, with particular applicability for the single-cone method.
“The flowability is even better—thanks to its modified consistency,” says Beth Damas, DDS, MS, Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics from Orland Park, Illinois. “This version allows us to reach many lateral canals, which is exactly what we need in practice. I really like that.”
According to Arjan de Roy, Group Vice President Essential Dental Solutions at Dentsply Sirona, the company’s goal is to offer clinically validated options that support diverse endodontic workflows.
“Every dentist has an individual approach to endodontic treatment,” explains de Roy. “With AH Plus® Ribbon® and ProRoot® Bio Sealer, we offer a choice that matches the personal preferences of each user. Both endodontic sealers meet the highest standards and are based on clinically proven technologies. By providing the ‘best of both worlds’ with regards to both sealer technologies, we’re convinced that each sealer will give practitioners the confidence they need to successfully perform endodontic treatments.”
