Dentsply Sirona and the Brazilian non-governmental organization (NGO) Project 32 have successfully completed a groundbreaking dental expedition to provide free, high-quality dental services to underserved riverside communities in the Amazon region, states a June 25, 2025, press release from Dentsply Sirona. As an initiative aimed to increase access to oral healthcare, it was closely aligned with Dentsply Sirona’s sustainability program, BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World.
The expedition, which occurred from June 1 to 7, 2025, brought advanced oral health treatments to residents of Rolim de Moura do Guaporé—a remote municipality in northern Brazil that is home to more than 55,000 people. In total, 20 dentists provided their services, with many participating remotely from their own clinics, thanks in part to DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s cloud-based platform. Through the platform, these off-site team members were able to collaborate remotely in real time, receiving and reviewing intraoral scans and advising on diagnoses and treatment options without needing to travel, which significantly expanded the expedition’s clinical capacity while saving money and minimizing its environmental impact. With the use of advanced digital dentistry tools, the team was able to complete approximately 2,000 restorative and endodontic procedures before the expedition’s completion.
Since 2013, the partnership between Dentsply Sirona and Project 32 has facilitated the performance of more than 30,000 advanced dental procedures in vulnerable communities across Brazil. Connected digital dentistry is enabling the initiative to deliver exceptional care with speed and safety—even in the most remote areas. “By using advanced techniques and high-performance technologies, we’re able to deliver exceptional care that is efficient for everyone involved,” says Dr. Manoel Eduardo de Lima Machado, founder of Project 32. “Digital dentistry brings both safety and agility—for the patient and the professional. The dentistry we practice is exactly what should be accessible to everyone, whether they are in the public or private healthcare system.”
“Our latest expedition is a powerful example of how digital technologies are advancing care in remote areas and increasing access to oral health care,” says Andrea Frohning, SVP, chief human resources officer at Dentsply Sirona. “We are transforming lives while also supporting our goal of creating 25 million healthy smiles by the end of 2025.”
Beyond Dentsply Sirona’s partnership with Project 32, the company is also partnering with other organizations, such as Smile Train, Amazon Doctors, and TeamSmile, to advance additional programs to increase access to oral healthcare. Dentsply Sirona believes that its ranking in Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies underscores its dedication to increase access to oral healthcare and to forge impactful partnerships that bring about a real difference in people’s lives.
