Prosthodontists are America’s fastest-growing medical career, according to a new study by international recruitment firm Espirita. The firm analyzed US Bureau of Labor Statistics data and found that these dental specialists top the list of rapidly growing healthcare jobs between 2020 and 2024.
Prosthodontists, who create custom dentures and dental implant restorations for patients, saw a massive 39.24% average yearly increase, far greater than any other medical profession. Workers in this field earn an average annual wage of $240,750 across the United States, according to the study.
Medical dosimetrists, who calculate precise radiation doses needed for cancer treatment, took the second spot with a yearly growth rate of 15.31%. The broad category “Therapists, All Other” finished in third place with 10.88% yearly growth. This classification covers various specialized therapy roles not fitting standard categories.
Psychiatric technicians showed the fourth highest growth with jobs increasing 9.67% yearly, which points to an expansion in mental health services across the country. Pediatricians ranked fifth, seeing a 9.53% yearly growth, demonstrating strong demand for doctors who specialize in children’s health needs.
The study also revealed healthcare support jobs grew faster overall at 1.08% yearly compared to just 0.23% for practitioners and technical roles. Support staff are increasingly in demand throughout the medical system, the figures suggest.
Sam Tennant, Global Operations Director at Espirita, said: “The extraordinary growth we’re seeing in specialized roles like prosthodontists and dosimetrists indicates a healthcare system that increasingly values specialized expertise. An aging population is also a factor in the need for dental specialists, while long-term illnesses have impacted the need for more careful diagnosis and managing treatment.”
