Forward Science has announced the launch of PerioStōm®, an oral wound dressing intended for use following iatrogenic dental procedures such as scaling and root planing (SRP). The product is FDA-cleared and formulated with chitosan microspheres, a biocompatible polymer with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-biofilm properties.
According to the company, PerioStōm is designed to protect the oral mucosa and support post-procedural healing by delivering a sustained release of chitosan at the treatment site. The formulation is applied using a stainless-steel applicator tip with a diameter matching that of a standard curette, which allows for precise delivery to the base of periodontal pockets.
