Solventum, a company known for innovations in dental composites and restorative dentistry, has announced a collaboration with SprintRay, a provider of chairside 3D dental printing technology. The goal of this partnership is to address the needs of dentists by enabling the production of 3D-printed crowns, inlays, onlays, and other restorations directly in the office. This research and development agreement focuses on the delivery of durable, high-quality same-day restorations that replicate the standards of traditional multi-visit laboratory processes.
Solventum Dental Solutions, formerly 3M Health Care, combines advanced materials with data science to offer dental professionals such products as Filtek™ Easy Match Universal Restorative, Filtek™ Matrix, Scotchbond™ Universal, and RelyX™ Universal Cement. SprintRay provides chairside 3D printing ecosystems, which support a wide variety of restorative dental applications.
Through this partnership, the two companies aim to introduce the first permanent chairside 3D-printed crown to the market. They anticipate that this technology will improve the patient experience and outcomes by enabling fewer office visits and ultimately making dental practices more efficient.
Karim Mansour, President of Dental Solutions at Solventum, stated, “Imagine a world where your dentist can create a crown that can last decades in a matter of minutes. We believe this partnership will revolutionize the way dentists and orthodontists care for patients with in-office production, offering a simplified procedure that we anticipate will improve outcomes and experiences, reduce chairtime, and lower treatment costs.”
The collaboration aims to streamline the restorative dentistry process, increasing the availability of same-day treatments for patients and providers, with a focus on providing permanent 3D-printed crowns, inlays, onlays, and more.
SprintRay’s CEO, Amir Mansouri, added, “Together, we can make a significant impact in restorative dentistry by building exceptional products for same-visit treatment. Our partnership with Solventum is a key collaboration and commitment to making a difference in people’s oral health as well as enabling high-quality and cost-effective dental restorations across the globe.”
The announcement of this partnership is consistent with Solventum’s ongoing efforts to invest in quality material science while strengthening its digital capabilities. The partnership follows several notable Solventum product launches in 2024, including: 3M™ Clarity™ Precision Grip Attachments, the first 3D-printed aligner attachments; 3M™ Clinpro™ Clear Fluoride Treatment, a water-based formula for smoother application and a more comfortable patient experience; Clarity™ Flex + Force Aligners, a proprietary multilayer copolymer extruded in various thicknesses for different degrees of movement; and 3M™ Filtek™ Easy Match Universal Restorative, which simplifies shade selection for direct restorative procedures.
