CE 1: Systematic Treatment Planning Protocol of the Edentulous Maxilla for an Implant-Supported Fixed Prosthesis
Edmond Bedrossian, DDS; and Edmond Armand Bedrossian, DDS
This first CE article discusses a pretreatment screening method that systematically considers the presence or absence of a composite defect, the visibility of the residual soft-tissue crest, and the availability of bone in three radiographic zones as guidelines for the selection of three potential fixed implant restorative designs: the “all-white” metal-ceramic or all-ceramic prosthesis, the fixed hybrid prosthesis, and the implant-supported over-denture. By employing the differential diagnosis criteria, the dental team can make an early determination of the treatment necessary to meet patient expectations.

CE 2: 10 Keys for Successful Esthetic-Zone Single Implants: Importance of Biotype Conversion for Lasting Success
Robert A. Levine, DDS; Jeffrey Ganeles, DMD; Joseph Kan, DDS, MS; and Phil L. Fava, DMD
This second CE article discusses esthetic-zone single immediate implants using an evidence-based approach involving 10 keys. The keys consider the concept of periodontal biotype conversion for the replacement of a hopeless tooth in the maxillary anterior sextant. These keys provide guidance in treatment planning and execution for experienced clinicians. This article focuses on periodontal biotype conversion using a subepithelial connective tissue graft, a crucial consideration that may improve the chances of obtaining a long-term esthetic result.
