CE: The Selective Enamel Etch Technique
Mark A. Koup, DMD; and Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD
This continuing education article discusses how the use of a selective enamel etch technique can be used to adequately prepare enamel surfaces to achieve optimal bond strengths, by selectively etching the enamel through application of phosphoric acid without etching the dentin. As the authors describe, selective etch thus avoids or minimizes some of the primary drawbacks experienced with total-etch and self-etch systems.

Deep Margin Elevation: Next-Level Adhesive Dentistry to Avoid Surgical Crown Lengthening
Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD; and Florin Eggmann, Dr. med. dent.
For teeth with subgingival defects, deep margin elevation has been suggested as a viable alternative to surgical crown lengthening in select cases. With this technique, a direct adhesive restoration is used to reposition the cervical margin to a supragingival position; after placement of the deep margin elevation restoration, the preparation for the indirect restoration and its bonding procedure are undertaken. This article describes this restorative technique that employs adhesive dentistry.
