In a significant advancement for the dental implant industry, Induce Biologics' Natural Matrix Protein (NMP) technology,* branded as Induce Oi-9™, marks a breakthrough in bone grafting and regenerative materials. The latest creation in NMP technology was developed by Sean Peel, PhD, and Cameron Clokie, DDS, PhD. Clokie, who was Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Toronto, led a prominent bone research laboratory for more than 20 years, with Peel serving as Director. They both completed research sabbaticals with the late Dr. Marshal Urist at UCLA in the 1990s, where they gained extensive knowledge about bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs).
"This NMP technology can be viewed as a next-generation advancement following Dr. Urist's original BMP/NCP (noncollagenous protein) or hBMP bioimplants," Clokie says.* NMP technology, he adds, "harnesses the full potential of native bone matrix proteins, making them bioavailable."* He believes the technology is poised to transform clinical procedures by providing predictable bone regeneration while decreasing chairtime.

"The NMP technology aids dental practitioners by delivering predictable bone regeneration to support dental implant placement," Clokie says. "The bioimplant's superior handling characteristics facilitate easy placement and, as a result, has the potential to significantly reduce chairtime compared to traditional grafts."
NMP bioimplants are available in various forms, including fibers forming a moldable putty, and particulates, used alone or mixed with other materials to enhance their regenerative capabilities. Induce Oi-9, the two researchers note, is the first bioimplant with actual osteoregenerative capabilities. "In the dental industry, most bone grafting materials introduced over the years have been primarily osteoconductive in nature, with only a few showing limited osteoinductive, or regenerative, capabilities," Peel explains. "The NMP Fiber Matrix technology, introduced to the market as Induce Oi-9, is the first truly osteoregenerative bioimplant available to dental practitioners."
With its ease of handling and regenerative properties, this innovative bioimplant not only simplifies the grafting process but also has the potential to reduce failures or the need for graft revisions, the researchers say. By enhancing the bioavailability of naturally occurring angiogenic, osteoinductive, and osteopromotive growth factors, it leads to improved bone regeneration. Bone cores recovered from alveolar ridges grafted with NMP, they point out, have shown that the NMP matrix effectively resorbs and is replaced by new bone, providing support for dental implant placement.*
"These features-reducing the need for revisions and shortening chairtime-make Induce Oi-9 a true breakthrough in bone grafting for dental practitioners," Peel states.
"The goal of any bone grafting procedure is to enhance the quality and volume of bone, providing a solid foundation for dental implant placement," Clokie says. "Induce Oi-9 provides the clinician the opportunity to meet this expectation effectively when used for alveolar reconstruction."
