Predicta® Restorative Products Offer the Benefit of Bioactivity
Compendium features peer-reviewed articles and continuing education opportunities on restorative techniques, clinical insights, and dental innovations, offering essential knowledge for dental professionals.
By the age of 17, Dimple Desai, DDS, AAACD, already knew she wanted to be a dentist. She received a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, which served as a "stepping stone" to advancing her career. Today, having been in dentistry since 2000, she is an accredited cosmetic dentist in Newport Beach, California, and is devoted to staying at the forefront of the field through continuous education.
"Treating patients and practicing dentistry is my true passion. I never stop learning and have invested countless hours in continuing education with leaders in the industry," Desai says. "With the advancements in technology, I am able to communicate, show, and simulate the patient's future treatment," she explains. "In addition, innovative products complement the technology that is being shown to the patient."

One example of such innovations she has implemented for cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures is the Predicta® Bioactive family of products from Parkell. Predicta® Bioactive Cement, for example, is a universal, self-adhesive resin cement that provides exceptional bond strengths to all substrates, including zirconia, and offers bioactive performance by filling and sealing microgaps with hydroxyapatite formation at the margin, thus preventing microleakage.
"This cement is easy to handle with its consistent viscosity. This makes it very clinician-friendly with an easy clean-up process along with its dual-cure properties," Desai comments. "The cement demonstrates predictability and reliability."
Indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and posts, Predicta Bioactive Cement is available in translucent, A2, and white opaque shades. "The various shades are convenient to block out or to manipulate the correct shades when needed," Desai notes. "In addition, the viscosity of the product makes it easy to place into a restoration without slumping or creating unnecessary gaps or air bubbles between the restoration and tooth. Also, the easy clean-up does not cause unnecessary postoperative gingival irritation after removal of the excess cement."
Other products in the Predicta line include Predicta® Bioactive Bulk, Predicta® Bioactive Core, and Predicta® Bioactive Desensitizer. Predicta Bioactive Bulk, according to the manufacturer, is a dual-cure composite that can be used to fill any size cavity preparation without the need for additional layering. The bulk-fill composite releases calcium and phosphate ions and releases and recharges fluoride ions to stimulate mineral apatite formation and remineralization at the material-tooth interface. Predicta Bioactive Core is a dual-cure composite for core build-ups and post cementations.
"Predicta Bioactive Cement's prevention toward microleakage of secondary caries is advantageous," Desai says. "I have older patients, and their oral hygiene is not always great. Preventing recurrent decay along the margins and creating a seal helps further prevent this from occurring."
