OMNICHROMA Flow Simplifies Workflow, Yields Long-Term Results
Compendium features peer-reviewed articles and continued education opportunities on restorative techniques, clinical insights, and dental innovations, offering essential knowledge for dental professionals.
One way Jersy Chen, DMD, keeps her busy midtown Manhattan dental practice running smoothly, she says, is by incorporating restorative products and technology that reduce guesswork, such as Tokuyama Dental's OMNICHROMA Flow, a one-shade flowable composite designed to esthetically match every color of tooth from A1 to D4.

OMNICHROMA Flow, the company notes, uniquely provides clinicians a medium-viscosity, light-cure, radiopaque composite with infinite color-matching possibilities through its Smart Chromatic Technology and uniformly sized supra-nano spherical fillers. The material is able to blend in virtually invisibly with surrounding tooth structure.
Chen points to a recent Class IV case that exhibited the long-term success of OMNICHROMA Flow. A 30-year-old man presented with size and shape discrepancies of teeth Nos. 6, 7, and 10, which were restored for esthetic purposes with minimal preparation. A diamond bur was used to slightly bevel the teeth on all margins to help blend the restoration to achieve better bond strength to the enamel. A self-etch bonding agent was placed beyond the margins, air-dried, and light-cured for 20 seconds. Teeth were isolated with matrices used as a guide to create ideal dental anatomy.
Chen placed a thin 0.5 mm layer of OMINICHROMA BLOCKER Flow to decrease transparency. OMNICHROMA Flow was then injected into the matrix and slightly beyond the margin to create ideal tooth form. Light curing was thoroughly done at the facial, lingual, and incisal surfaces as each layer of composite was placed. The polishing process included the use of coarse and medium discs, a polishing kit, and polisher bur to add luster to the restorations.
At the nearly 1-year follow-up appointment, the OMNICHROMA Flowrestorations had retained their shape and integrity. "Esthetics of the restorations were also well maintained in terms of shade adaptation," Chen affirms. "In this case, the patient's overall teeth shade had slightly darkened since he had not whitened his teeth in the past 6 months. With that change, the color of the restoration still continued to match, which is wonderful because the restoration is not noticeable and does not need to be replaced."
"OMNICHROMA Flow helps my dental office save time and cost in the long term by not having to shade-match each tooth or purchase many different composite shades that I won't frequently use, and there is less need to replace discolored unmatched restorations. Patient satisfaction increases as patients worry less about upkeeping teeth whitening. It's a win-win for all!" Chen concludes.
