"Many aspects of aligner technology have improved, from innovations in materials to advances in software design. One of the most impactful technologies that has changed how I plan and visualize cases is the ClearPilot™ software," says the San Francisco Bay Area practitioner who specializes in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
"ClearCorrect has advanced software. I am now doing many simple cases without refinement, minimizing the use of attachments, and utilizing advanced aligners that are trimmed flat and above the gum line for better retention. Most of my cases don't require refinements anymore," he attests.
Kalika, a 1994 graduate of Harvard School of Dental Medicine, has been practicing airway-friendly orthodontics for more than 20 years. He says that the many advancements in Straumann's ClearCorrect aligners have increased efficiency and precision. This includes the use of ClearPilot, an intuitive treatment planning tool.
"Straumann is one of the leading companies in the implant market, and working on the multispecialty aspect of treatment with ClearCorrect can provide an integrated approach," he says. "Straumann is perfecting the software and material for efficient, effective treatment of multispecialty cases."
Such advancements, Kalika explains, will allow more dentists to integrate aligners into their practices for a multitude of cases.
"One out of four patients has problems with their bite, and if we, as doctors, miss [the problems] then patients turn to direct-to-consumer options. The most important conversion factor for patients is doctor recommendations because of relationship and trust," he says. His advice to clinicians?: "Start screening every single patient for orthodontic needs; this will provide a good adjunct to the overall oral health of your patients."
For clinicians who are new to utilizing ClearCorrect aligners in their office, Kalika suggests starting out with Straumann's many educational components and choosing fairly simple cases to gain knowledge and confidence. "Start with simple cases, gain an understanding of the software, and then move to more advanced cases gradually," he says.
ClearCorrect aligners are engineered in the United States and made with materials optimized for stress retention and clarity while resisting stains and cracks. "For simple to medium cases, this treatment provides efficiency and precision," Kalika says. "And patients appreciate the good esthetics!"
