Offering cordless convenience, the Waterpik ION is a 30% smaller unit than traditional countertop water flosser models with a lithium-ion battery that lasts up to 4 weeks per charge. "This," says the current Vice President of the New Jersey Dental Hygienists' Association, "allows for the same features customers expect from full-size models in a compact and cordless design ideal for smaller bathrooms or for travel."
"In my experience, patients know that oral health is important. However, many are not compliant with homecare methods because they simply don't enjoy the process or find it difficult to implement," Scherer explains. "I recommend the Waterpik® Water Flosser for all patients who need to improve their oral health. With more than 80 published scientific studies behind it, no other oral hygiene product has the depth and breadth of research support than the Waterpik."
"Patients report that it is easy to incorporate the water flosser into their daily routine, and the improvement I've seen in oral health is unmatched by other products I've previously recommended," she says.
Scherer, who recently joined Water Pik, Inc. after 20 years of clinical practice, recommends dental professionals personally experience the use of a water flosser. "When I first tried a Waterpik Water Flosser, I learned some techniques that I was able to share with my patients to optimize their experience. For example, looking into the sink while water flossing to prevent splatter. Waterpik makes it easy to try products with professional pricing on many water flossers, including the ION."
Effective for plaque removal, the ION Professional water flosser has a full range of pressure settings from 10 psi to 100 psi. Scherer suggests patients start on a low pressure and gradually increase to a minimum of medium. For patients who prefer the higher settings, research has shown that even on the highest pressure settings, the Waterpik Water Flosser is safe on the gingival tissue and epithelial attachment, she says. The ION Professional is also equipped with seven flossing tips, including the new Implant Denture Tip, designed for cleaning under implant-retained dentures. An orthodontic tip is well-suited for removing plaque around braces.
Prior to joining Water Pik, Inc., Scherer was a practitioner, program instructor, speaker, and author. These professional experiences have helped her recognize a good oral care product when she sees it. "When dental professionals recommend the Waterpik brand, they can have confidence their patients will get a great product that will help them achieve optimal oral health."
