Taking an ordinary composite restoration to an extraordinary one through the use of bioactive materials allows for the creation of long-term oral health and beautiful restorations. Materials that provide a regenerative environment in which tissues can stabilize and repair while being simple and quick to use is advantageous to every clinician. The restoratives in the Giomer family (Shofu Dental Corp., www.shofu.com) feature a stable glass core coated with an ionomer (SPR-G) lining in a resin matrix. Long-term oral health and restoration longevity are increased due to the predictable antibacterial property features, as this case demonstrates.
• Along with the added benefit of fluoride release and recharge often associated with glass ionomers, Giomer restoratives combine excellent esthetics and physical properties with long-term independent studies to support their use.
• BeautiBond adhesive, Beautifil Flow Plus, and Beautifil II composite materials from Shofu Dental Corp. were used in recreating the natural appearance of the esthetic long-lasting restoration allowing for simplicity, speed, and bioactivity.
• The Giomer line includes flowables, sealants, posterior microhybrids, and bulk-fill materials to support all direct restorations.

Figure 1
Fig 1. The patient presented with two teeth needing treatment due to decay, leakage, and fractured restorations.
Figure 2
Fig 2. Prior to treatment, articulating paper was used to note the occlusion. This was used for planning the final restoration so that the margins of the composite would not be on a highly occlusal loading area and the final occlusion will be either all on the tooth or restoration.

Fig 3. After local anesthesia, a rubber dam was placed for isolation.
Figure 4
Fig 4. The decay and the old restoration were removed, and the preparation was evaluated.
Figure 5
Fig 5. BeautiBond (Shofu Dental) was used in the adhesion process and left on the tooth for 10 seconds. Then, light air-drying was done for 3 seconds and light-curing for 10 seconds.
Figure 6
Fig 6. BeautiBond adhesive was used in this case. It’s a seventh-generation bonding agent featuring an exclusive chemistry with unique dual adhesive monomers that deliver equal bond strength to enamel and dentin.

Fig 7. Giomer restorative materials Beautifil II nanohybrid (Shofu Dental) and Beautifil Flow Plus (Shofu Dental) were used. The flowable material was placed in a 0.5-mm layer first and cured. Then it was followed by placement and curing of Beautifil II in 2-mm increments.
