Tetric EvoCeram® Bulk Fill Simplifies Composite Restoration Placement, Increases Efficiency
Compendium features peer-reviewed articles and continuing education opportunities on restorative techniques, clinical insights, and dental innovations, offering essential knowledge for dental professionals.
The most significant issue impacting large resin composite restorations is the incremental placement technique, which can result in a lengthy restoration procedure that is not conducive to the parameters of a limited timeframe. Historically, dentists have managed potential complications by painstakingly and attentively placing and curing multiple layers of composite in 2-mm increments to minimize shrinkage stress and ensure adequate depth of cure.1 This technique has not been without complications, as the material still had a predisposition to shrinkage, resulting in microleakage and esthetically displeasing white lines.2 The demand for advanced dental materials and more proficient techniques led to the introduction of nanohybrid composites, which facilitate a simplified direct restorative procedure through superior handling capabilities.
A New Bulk Fill Composite Solution—Tetric EvoCeram® Bulk Fill is a nanohybrid composite specifically designed for the bulk filling of posterior restorations using one material, one filling, and one increment for optimal efficiency and predictable placement. The advanced chemical properties enable the material to better adapt to cavity walls for the simplified placement of more predictable restorations.2,3

One advantage of Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill is the unique Ivocerin™ component, a patented photoinitiator that provides an efficient depth of cure up to 4 mm and a shorter curing time of 10 seconds. An additive light sensitivity filter delays the composite material’s reaction to ambient light, increasing workability time to 3 minutes without turning away light sources.
Another unique component of the composite is a polymerization stress reliever. By keeping the “chemical cushion” between coarse filler particles intact, the applied stress during polymerization is reduced, improving the elasticity of the restoration.
The smooth consistency and adaptability of Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill composite allows for easy contouring, and the single application and curing process saves chairtime. This sculptable-viscosity material can be placed using the tools already in the practice. Moreover, the shrinkage stress reliever prevents the debonding of restorations, extends longevity, and prevents microleakage.
Three universal shades with an enamel-like translucency offer seamless color-matching.
Key Advantages—Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill demonstrates low shrinkage stress values, improved strength characteristics, enhanced marginal integrity, and high radiopacity. This advanced product represents a less technique-sensitive material that eradicates the problems associated with previous composite materials.
